Crocodile dreams
I have forgotten how to tell the difference between an alligator and a crocodile. It might not be as easy as to tell the difference between a tortoise and a turtle (turtles dwell in water) but I am sure there is some way to do it ...maybe it is the nose? Anyway..my point is...today's writing could as well have been called "Alligator dreams", (since I am not really sure).
Now when my fixation on the right usage of word is satisfied I can tell you the origin to the headline. It was many weeks since I slept as badly as last night. When I finally did fall asleep I dreamt that a male character (sometimes it was my ex and sometimes it was the headmaster at my school) was hunting and shooting crocodiles with his friends. Crocodile meat has (in my dreams) the same taste and texture where ever you find it in its slimy reptile body...from the nostrils, that are (unfortunately) held above water to keep it from drowning, to its dangerous tail.
In the dream a friend was cooking the cut off arms from five natives in a big pot. This was apperantly (in the dream...irl it was not apparent at all) to get the stored crocodile meat the native once had eaten out. Onto that point (seeing human flesh boiling in a pot) I have contemplated eating some of the crocodile meat..you know...to see if it tasted like chicken...but after seeing arms boiling away to get it crocodile meat out (yeah I know it's weird) there is no way that I'll ever try it.
When I was little I slept with my hands and feet under the quilt even during hot summer nights since I was suspecting there was a crocodile underneath my bed. The crocodile would eat my limbs if they stuck out from underneat the blanket. It might have been an alligator though...like I said, not realIy sure..and I was even more uncertain of the difference as child. What I DO know is that both crocodiles and alligators are reptiles and that I was pretty sure I knew even as a little girl.
