Today I am honoring my Finnish roots. Yeah, that's right, I am half Finnish. My mother came to Sweden as a war baby when she was about 3 years old. It was a big trauma for her. Her name was Eila, Sile , Kaarina Leth and I was really supposed to be named Kaarina, luckily enough she changed her mind about that.
I love my Finnish relatives even if I have not seen them for over 30 years. I don't know if Finland has changed a lot but if it hasn't I have some advice for them:
*That dark hard bread you have is just slightly easier to chew than a stone
*learn how to put on make up (hint: do not use a shovel),
*stop having such good results in international school tests, you make Sweden look bad
*women who smoke in the street are not necessarily prostitutes.
*To watch English films with both Finnish, as well as Swedish subtitles give people headache
*There are other dances than tango
*Coffee is supposed to be black, not the same colour as beer...it is also supposed to taste something.
*there is nothing wrong with wine or beer, Vodka is kind of strong you know...neat.
And the most important:
*to sit in a sauna naked with a bunch of relatives the first time she meet them can be really frightening for a young girl, particularly if you are going to hit each other with branches of birch.

...but at least I got my high cheek bones from my mother, thanks Suomi.
